A Safe Place To Go For Help

Uniting Businesses, Volunteers, and the Community to Help Youth In Crisis

Safe Place is a nationwide program designed to help any youth under age 21 who are in crisis and may feel they have nowhere to turn.

Youth in the greater Kansas City community turn to Safe Place, part of the network of National Safe Place locations, when facing problems at home, experiencing abuse or neglect, living on the street, or are in other dangerous circumstances such as with a drunk driver or an unsafe date.

If you feel unsafe, our team is available 24/7.

Find a Location

Organizations all across the greater Kansas City metropolitan area have joined the Safe Place community. Youth in crisis can visit these locations.

  • QuikTrip locations across the city
  • Kansas City Public Libraries
  • YMCAs across the city
  • Metro buses
  • Mid-Continent Public Libraries

In addition to these sites, youth may also access immediate help via TXT 4 HELP, a text-for-support service for youth in crisis.

Teens can text the word “safe” and their current location (address, city, state) to 4HELP (44357) to receive a message with the closest Safe Place location and the number for the local youth shelter.

Users also have the option to text interactively with a counselor for more help.

How Safe Place Works

A young person enters Safe Place to ask for assistance.

A young person enters a Safe Place location and asks for help.

A young person is assisted by an employee at a Safe Place partner location.

The site employee finds a comfortable place for the youth to wait while they call a licensed agency, such as Synergy Services.

A young person recieves transportation and assistance from a Synergy Services team member.

A qualified advocate will arrive to talk with the youth and, if necessary, provides transportation to the agency.

A member of the Synergy Services team connects a youth to resources and assistance.

Once at the agency, advocates meet with the youth and provide support. Agency staff make sure the youth and their families receive the help and professional services they need.
