School Based
Integrated Services
Supporting Students, Supporting Teachers, Supporting Schools
Every year thousands of students across the Kansas City community receive mental health services from Synergy’s School-Based Integrated Services (SBIS) program. The SBIS Team provides trauma-sensitive and resiliency-based services to students and staff in Jackson, Clay, and Platte counties.
How Synergy Helps Students in Need
As an agency focused on helping our clients recover from trauma and build resilience, SBIS takes our knowledge and expertise directly into our local schools. Students today face high levels of stress and anxiety that impact their mental and behavioral health. Supporting students in learning regulation and coping skills helps the individual child and the entire classroom thrive.
The impact of childhood trauma is one of the most pressing issues facing educators and our society. Young children who have experienced trauma often lack the support they need to be successful in school.
Children face incredibly high rates of stress and anxiety that impacts learning, not only for the individual child but for the entire classroom.
Breaking Down Barriers
By meeting children where they are, we can break down barriers that many face when it comes to accessing support. Working with students, educators, and families, our school-based team takes a holistic approach.
Providing individual behavior support implementation to students following a behavior plan and coaching faculty on plans to ensure learned skills continue.
Helping teachers and students recognize, understand, and address trauma to create classrooms that are conducive to learning.
Providing prevention and early intervention services within classrooms and small groups teaches students self-regulation skills and increases resiliency, ultimately effecting generational change.
Onsite therapy helps students process and move beyond trauma.
Facilitating a culture shift by conducting professional development and consultation to integrate new policies and practices. These policies consider the underlying trauma and factors for a child’s behavior and addresses their unique needs for learning.
Creating Futures Full of Promise
The School-Based Integrated Services Program is helping create trauma-informed schools where students and faculty build connection, increase skills, and support healthy development, that benefit students academically and emotionally. By further strengthening protective factors and helping break through behavioral obstacles to learning, we take steps in overcoming Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and creating futures full of promise.
