Support Survivors & Our Four-Legged Friends

It’s not up to anyone to judge why an individual doesn’t leave- it's up to us to offer a safe place to go when they do. With the recent developments in program services at Synergy, our team now proudly supports the pets of Domestic Violence Survivors, connecting them to resources in partnership with Kansas City Pet Project & BestyBnb.

Starting TODAY, any donation made over $100 may be eligible for Missouri Tax Credits* with contributions receiving seventy cents on the dollar of the contribution.

Right now, your $100 can provide the support in the transition to shelter and safety for victims of domestic violence and their four-legged family members. We need your help.

For more information, contact Jennifer Hurst, Director of Development at jhurst@synergyservices.org or by phone (913) 530-2597. Contact your tax advisor regarding charitable deductions and how tax credits may benefit you.

Meet Georgia & Pepper

Georgia survived over 15 years of severe physical, sexual, psychological and financial abuse. In 2022 Georgia reached out to Synergy’s Domestic Violence Center in desperate need of help. Every day at Synergy Services, we see the complexities of domestic violence. Abuse involves much more than just physical violence and can rear its ugly head in many ways.

For Georgia, the hidden abuse in her household left her chained to a fear that her beloved lab, Pepper, would be hurt if she spoke out. Georgia stayed to protect the one thing she loved the most, Pepper. Her reality had been so distorted over the years of abuse, she believed there was no escape... especially not a future with an escape for both of them. A common question that gets passed around too often, “but why do women stay?”

It’s not up to anyone to judge why an individual doesn’t leave- it's up to us to offer a safe place to go when they do. For Georgia, her first call to Synergy led to a safety plan. With the recent developments in program services at Synergy, our team now proudly supports the pets of Domestic Violence Survivors, connecting them to resources in partnership with Kansas City Pet Project & BestyBnB.

Synergy Services’ staff assisted both Georgia and Pepper in safely escaping. Georgia came to Synergy Services’ Domestic Violence Center knowing that Pepper was safe in the loving care of a foster volunteer through BestyBnb. Staff was able to assist Georgia in beginning to form safe and trusting relationships, receive medical care, gain employment, and ultimately reunify with Pepper in her own apartment- safe, for the first time in 15 years.

Georgia and Pepper are not the only victims that need our help finding safety and support.

"I give to Synergy’s domestic violence program because I’ve witnessed the impact of my donation. Everything they do stays right here to help Kansas City women and children. Listening to the horrific stories of abuse is devastating. I can’t just sit back and let women and children in my community be harmed, so I donate to the organization I trust most – Synergy Services." Linda M., CEO of local business
