Since the pandemic, the need for our domestic violence services has increased by 25%. With a full shelter, we have been hosting victims fleeing abuse in hotel rooms. Most women enter our shelter with only the clothes on their back. They have never been in this situation before and have no idea what to do. We've found a simple Welcome Kit stuffed with essential items is one way to help women and children feel a bit more comfortable upon their first night in our shelter.
Jenna is a mom of 5 children, two of whom have diagnosed autism. After several years in an abusive marriage, Jenna fled but was unable to secure safe and stable housing, so she was forced to return to her abusive partner. Soon after, Children's Division removed Jenna's children from the home. Jenna fled again and entered our Domestic Violence Center Housing Program, where she thrived. Jenna moved into a Synergy-sponsored apartment, regained her previous employment as a dental assistant, paid off several debts, and was reunite with all of her children. Jenna is active in therapy services and case management and is well on her way to healing from her past and becoming independent.

"I give to Synergy’s domestic violence program because I’ve witnessed the impact of my donation. Everything they do stays right here to help Kansas City women and children. Listening to the horrific stories of abuse is devastating. I can’t just sit back and let women and children in my community be harmed, so I donate to the organization I trust most – Synergy Services." Linda M., CEO of local business
