About Synergy Services
When we opened our doors in 1970, we were the only shelter for runaway and homeless youth in western Missouri. Through the years, our reach expanded to include young children and individuals victimized by abuse. Today, we envision a world free of family violence and do all we can to make that a reality.
Where We Are Now
Today, Synergy provides a full continuum of care to assist individuals and families with immediate respite from violence. Our services empower clients to find and choose good options for future safety and success.
In addition to our work to treat the effects of violence, we provide supportive services to families in crisis to prevent violence.
Additionally, we focus on community education and social change to build a safer and more humane society. Our comprehensive programs include crisis hotlines, emergency shelters, transitional housing, therapeutic services, advocacy, mentoring, and violence prevention programs.

Helping Kids, Teens, and Adults Heal
Synergy’s clients represent a broad cross-section of the population spanning gender, age, race, and six county lines in Kansas and Missouri.
Most often, clients have annual family incomes of less than $25,000, making it difficult to access the variety of services they need through traditional means.
We provide these critical services to anyone who needs them regardless of ability to pay.Â
Synergy is committed to provide excellent service to every client
We are proud to report that our programs are fully accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Children and Families (COA). Additionally, Synergy Services is recognized as a Platinum Seal Agency through Guidestar. Participating in local, regional and national collaborations as well as joining forces to better meet community needs has been the hallmark of Synergy Services since its founding more than 50 years ago. We have more than 70 agencies, coalitions and program partnerships among our service base.
We are especially pleased to be part of the Metropolitan Family Violence Coalition, a unique partnership between the six local domestic violence agencies. This group is recognized by the National Network Against Domestic Violence as the best coordinated community-wide response in the United States.
We are also a United Way Impact 100 agency, and the lead local agency affiliated with National Safe Place, an organization dedicated to creating a network of sites in communities across America where youth in danger can connect with the resources they need.
Our sincerest thanks to the Children’s Services Fund of Jackson County and the Children’s Services Fund of Clay County for making it possible for us to provide critical mental health services and support to thousands of students and families right here in our Kansas City metropolitan community.

Find a Safe Place
Safe Place sites are located throughout the community, designated by the yellow and black Safe Place sign. This guarantees immediate safety for youth who find themselves in danger or who don’t know where to turn for help.
Employees at each Safe Place site have the ability and access to connect young people to local agencies like Synergy Services for assistance and support.
Help On the Street
The Kansas City metro is currently home to approximately 2,000 homeless youth. Are you or someone you know in this group? Synergy Services’ Street Outreach team is here for you!
Through a collaboration between Synergy and partner agencies, our Street Outreach team supports homeless young people. We do this connecting youth to safe shelter, long-term housing and support services, while necessary supplies youth may need.
