Youth Resiliency Center (YRC)
Synergy's YRC is a unique place that promotes growth and healing for young people. The YRC maximizes synergy as we bring together the best programs and agencies from the community to help metro youth overcome poverty and trauma and go on to lead healthy productive adult lives.
More than 2,000 young people in Greater Kansas City are homeless and on their own at any given time.
In the YRC's Creative Arts Center, our partnership with Kansas City Young Audiences, the largest provider of art programs in the Kansas City area, allows us to provide a wide variety of therapeutic arts-based programs delivered by the finest teaching artists in the community.
Budding musicians can express themselves and learn tangible skills at the recording studio, while those with a flair for food benefit from culinary classes in the commercial kitchen. Job readiness programs in the computer lab give youth the opportunity to receive job search assistance, G.E.D. help and participate in a variety of educational classes. The gym and fitness center offer workout equipment and classes for overall well-being.
The YRC'S Youth Advisory Council gives young people leadership opportunities and a way to give back.
Every service offered at the YRC caters specifically to a teenager's unique needs and challenges.
For young people living on the street, the drop-in center offers showers, lockers, laundry and kitchen facilities, and a lounge where young people can hang out and be safe.
The teen clinic offers the chance for teens to have a "medical home" and the benefit of outstanding healthcare expertise. Synergy's own mental health counseling and art therapy staff joins Children's Mercy and Miles of Smiles to offer comprehensive medical, dental, and mental health services.
Additionally, case management services along with information and referrals help YRC clients navigate whatever situation they find themselves in and achieve a positive outcome.
