Imagine that you are homeless one night. You're cold, hungry and looking for shelter. Imagine that you chose to do this. Imagine that it makes a difference in the lives of thousands of other young people. You chose to participate in Synergy's One Homeless Night 2010. Through your efforts more people are aware of the fact that on any given night there are more than 2,000 homeless youth in the Kansas City area. Through sponsorship you raise funds to support Synergy's Youth Resiliency Campus, providing shelter, counseling and countless resources for our most vulnerable youth.
On Friday, November 12, 2010 across the Kansas City metro, hundreds of youth (our goal is 2,000 to represent the actual number of youth homeless every night in the KC area) will participate in "sleep-outs" to simulate homelessness, learn about the issue, inform others and raise funds.
There are a number of ways to get involved in One Homeless Night. Create an event that's right for you!
- Organize or participate in a youth "Sleep-Out" at your school, place of worship or community organization.
- Find out about how to participate at an "Open" site near you by contacting the OHN Coordinator
- Raise funds by asking people to "sponsor" your homeless simulation.
- Create your own fundraiser (see Fundraising Guide for ideas).
- Sponsor a youth group participating in the sleep-out.
- Provide a "soup kitchen" or other service for a group participating in the sleep-out.
- Conduct educational events and activities to inform people in the community about Youth Homelessness.
- Host an art exhibit that represents youth homelessness through theatre, song, poetry, visual displays, etc.
If you, your school, place of worship, club or community organization would like to participate in OHN 2010, or if your business is interested in being a corporate sponsor please contact Jeff Matascik, One Homeless Night Coordinator at jmatascik@synergyservices.org or 816-505-4863.
