Robin Shanberg Winner, Executive Director
Robin will soon celebrate her fifteenth anniversary as Executive Director of Synergy Services, Inc. Prior to assuming the leadership of Synergy, she served as a Regional and National staff member of Jewish Women International for 22 years, providing support and leaderhsip to chapters across the United States and Canada. She also began her career working as a District Director for the Sunflower Council of Camp Fire Girls for 6 years.
In addition to her leadership at Synergy Services, Robin currently serves on the Executive Committee of the Metro Homelessness Task Force and chairs the Sub-Committee to Overcome Homelessness for Children and Youth. She also is chairing the Jackson/Clay Children's Service Fund initiative to pass a sales tax in 2016 to benefit children and youth in Jackson and Clay Counties. Ms. Winner served for 3 years as chairman of the Metro Family Violence Coalition (MFVC) helping foster genuine collaboration between the community's six domestic violcne agencies. During her tenure, United Way chose to nominate the MFVC for the national Collaboration Award and the group was commended by the National Network to End Domestic Violence for having developed the best intregrated approach to domestic violence in the country. She also served a 2-year term as President of the Association of United Way Agencies, composed of the 152 United Way agency CEO's, and represented her colleagues on the Heart of America United Way board of directors. Honored by the Homeless Services Coalition with their prestigious Collaboration Award, Robin Also received a Heroes in Our Midst Award from the National Greeting Cards Association, one of only 12 people so honored across the United States each year.
In addition, Winner was appointed to the first Executive Director Non-Profit Advisory Group for the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation's Donor Edge project, served on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, the Clay County CASA board, and as the Chair of the Community Health Initiative (CHIP) of the Kansas City Health Department. She also served on the Advisory Board of the Kansas City Ara Transportation Agency.
A Kansas City native, Robin received her education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, the London School of Economics and the University of Missouri Kansas City with degrees in Political Science. Her husband, Robert of more than 40 years passed away in 2013, but she is the parent of two daughters and a proud grandmother of a grandson (age 4) and a granddaughter (age 2).
Dennis Meier, Ph. D., Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services
Dennis is a 32-year veteran of Synergy Services, serving first as a Family Counselor, then as Director of Therapeutic Services, and since 2002 as Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services. He received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Philosophy from Rockhurst University, and holds a master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City as well as a master’s degree in Theology from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. He received his doctorate from Columbia Pacific University and is licensed by the State of Missouri as a professional counselor and marriage and family therapist. Dennis serves as chair for several Kansas City Metro-wide professional committees focused on behavioral health of children, youth, and families.
