Synergy’s 150-member staff dedicate themselves every day to confronting and overcoming violence in our community. They are led by an experienced group of professionals including:
Robin Shanberg Winner, Executive Director
Robin has provided non-profit management for more than forty-five years and will soon celebrate her seventeenth anniversary as Executive Director of Synergy Services. In addition to her leadership of Synergy Services, she recently chaired the Children’s Service Fund Coalition that passed the Children’s Service Fund ballot initiative in Jackson County, Missouri in November 2016 and in Clay County, Missouri in August 2017. The millions of dollars raised annually by this small sales tax will benefit children and youth across the counties. Winner also currently serves on the Advisory Board of the Missouri Housing Trust Fund. She served for 3 years as chairman of the Metro Family Violence Coalition (MFVC) helping foster genuine collaboration between the community's six domestic violence agencies as well as President of the Association of United Way Agencies. Honored by the Homeless Services Coalition with their prestigious Collaboration Award, Robin also received a Heroes in Our Midst Award from the National Greeting Cards Association, one of only 12 people so honored across the United States each year.
In addition, Winner previously was appointed to the first Executive Director Non-Profit Advisory Group for the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation, served on the Board of Directors of the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, the Clay County CASA board, and as the Chair of the Community Health Initiative (CHIP) of the Kansas City Health Department. She also served on the Advisory Board of the Kansas City Area Transportation Agency and as a Vice President of the Women’s Division of the Greater Kansas City Jewish Federation.
A Kansas City native, Robin received her education at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, the London School of Economics and the University of Missouri Kansas City specializing in political science. Her husband Robert of more than 40 years passed away in 2013, but she is the proud parent of two daughters and a delighted grandmother of a 7-year old grandson and 4-year old granddaughter.
Dennis Meier, Ph. D., Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services
Dennis is a 32-year veteran of Synergy Services, serving first as a Family Counselor, then as Director of Therapeutic Services, and since 2002 as Associate Executive Director of Clinical Services. He received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology/Philosophy from Rockhurst University, and holds a master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance from the University of Missouri-Kansas City as well as a master’s degree in Theology from Saint John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota. He received his doctorate from Columbia Pacific University and is licensed by the State of Missouri as a professional counselor and marriage and family therapist.
